Olive & Myrtle is happy to announce our recent move to the Pacific Northwest! It was a big decision, but one that we know will be perfect for us. We look forward to getting to know sustainable designers, artists and companies in Seattle. Our new office is located in Belltown, and came with fabulous views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains! Olive & Myrtle can still be found 24/7 online, across the country, but we will be looking for just the perfect spot to open our first store in one of Seattle’s fabulous neighborhoods in 2012. We look forward to being the #1 Seattle retailer for beautifully-designed eco-friendly products for the home.

Companies that produce cotton products are quick to correlate their items with ‘natural,’ but just because they’re made with a non-synthetic fiber, your cotton towels, blankets, and linens could be carrying heavy toxins. Average cotton production uses some of the most chemical pesticides by volume of any crop, and average textile production can include harmful, cancer-causing chemicals (arsenic, formaldehyde, heavy-metal dyes), according to actual natural cotton company LOOP Organic.

The trees used to create the lumber have all fallen naturally, and then Wood From the Hood dedicates itself to processing and creating all products within a 150-mile radius of where the tree was reclaimed, creating a minimal carbon footprint.

We’re all guilty of harboring a collection of those plastic bags. You know the ones–not the big, thick ones you actually reuse again, but the thin, more commonly-given bags. You probably own one or several canvas or cotton reusable totes, but once in a while you forget them in your car, or at home, or have too much stuff, and inevitably, those plastic bags creep back into your life.

Enter Sally Murphy. A cancer survivor, Murphy knit throughout her battle, and was inspired to incorporate a new medium. The Plastic Bag Bag was created, and is a gorgeous use of all that plastic. Durable, stylish, and super handy, each bag has a reinforced bottom and handles, and puts good use to 20 post-consumer plastic bags. As a beach bag, grocery bag, or purse, this multi-purpose tote is a beautiful representation of useful repurposing, and is Murphy’s nod of respect to the planet for receiving a second chance at life.

Shaped by hand from coconut shells, the whimsical Reclaimed Coconut Shell Bowls by Bambu are a fun addition to any home. Each bowl is made from a reclaimed coconut shell that is cleaned a polished to a glossy sheen, and then completed with a coat of natural, waterproof lacquer in three vibrant colors—Basil, Mango, and Spearmint (red shade Cayenne is discontinued).

Meet eco-friendly company Ecojot. Based in Canada, Ecojot is a brother and sister team producing fun, chic creations made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper products. The Ecojot paper mill takes in absolutely no new trees to make the products, and is powered by gas emission breakdowns from a nearby landfill. Acid-and-chlorine-free paper and board is processed and inked with designs made from vegetable-based glues and dyes, and the packaging is corn-based.
